I only do it very rarely for lines I must have displayed OOB... like the Avengers 2 set which is just amazing and under appreciated.

Just one. One to open and display, and that’s it.

I only get two if it is from Gamestop or FYE pre orders

I wouldn't be able to afford that practice, but it's a great idea. I would do much more out of the box if I did

I've been a pop collector for over 3 and a half years, and I in NO way knock anyone for the way they collect, but I'm still baffled why anyone would keep these in boxes. Even worse are the boxes that are turned sideways and stacked against a wall, so all you see is the box art. I'll never understand it, so I just move on and do things my way and still marvel at their wonderful collections!
I don't understand why you are so baffled about it. Some prefer the symmetry of stacked pops. I also enjoy seeing the pop inside its box next to its cover image. It has nothing to do with keeping the pop/box in mint condition, for me. On the flip side, I prefer to see Dorbz Ridez out of the box so all 32 of those are free.

I don't. Sometimes I have a regular and a chase gitd or some such thing, but never two of the exact same. In the box doesn't mean anything to me. I can't fully appreciate it in the box, so there's no reason for me to have two for that purpose.

Whenever I buy multiple, one goes to me one is for to trade and the rest go to my collector friends who need it.
I keep switching inbox and oob displays, but I'm always careful opening the box that I don't need 2nd pop for myself. (Oh, except ordering online because of the same reason of other people.)

I haven't no. I'm 100% in box and plan to stay that way. Plus, I spent enough on Pops as is without intentionally buying duplicates!!!

Nope, buy only one of each and throw all the boxes away. I'm not buying pops for a pay day. I buy them for the characters I like and for my enjoyment. Buying 2 of each is just seems like a waste of funds of getting more pops!

To be clear, I mean no disrespect, I just don't get it. I'm not grumpy about it or even being snippy, I was just noting how after so many years of collecting I just don't get the idea to keep something meant to be taken out, left in the box and stacked up. It's just my opinion, no biggie.

"Meant to be taken out" is just an opinion. Even if Funko publishes that idea, it has to be taken with a grain of salt since that is there standard defense against replacing boxes. Do they say that because Brian truly believes that or do they say that so they don't want to replace boxes? Find me a picture of Brian's office showing his non Funko collection. I want to see where he has tossed the packages of his toys.

Depending on what it is and the price, I have purchased multiples in order to display one OOB and to have one in box. Voltron comes to mind when I have practiced this. I love Voltron!

Pictures of his office have been shown before - and every single collectible is out of box. I don't have a direct link to any, but most interviews with him have shown his office.
I'm sure Funko appreciates both in and oob collectors, as both increase their profit.
There is so much detail on the figures, that I believe they are genuine in stating out of box. But to each their own.

We usually buy one to open and enjoy
We also love checking out the artistic work done on the Pops
. Sometimes we might buy two of the same if a niece, nephew, or friend likes it too and cannot find one to purchase
.

Yeah, I've seen a lot, but I only ever see Funko stuff around his office. Of course, when you make the darn stuff, the box isn't important to you. I'm curious about the 60s and 70s toys that he collects. I still wager he has toys in boxes and MOC.
I still don't see the point of arguing that what the manufacturer of a toy says has more weight than what the collector feels like doing. Again, of course, they want you to open their toy and see the creation they made. Doesn't make you closer to any deity if you do that though.

I did it once because I had the Pop autographed and he damaged the box when he was trying to put the Pop back in. I don't have the space to buy duplicates even if I wanted to!

I was very fond of buying dupes... but not so much anymore as space has become a massive issue. I am really trying very hard to slow down on commons and dbls.

Re: Do you buy two of each Pop? One to open and one to save?
For the most part we are in box collectors. However, a local comic book store used to sell damaged box pops for only $5 so we would take those ones out of box. Any damaged box ones we just take out. Also the 10" Hulk we had to take out of the box because it just looked way to cool! So to answer the question most of our pops are in box and some are out of box to enjoy!FunkoMeansFun wrote:I am always curious what my fellow Funko Fanaticscollections are like and really enjoy hearing what and how everybody collects.
My question today is this:
Do you buy two of each Pop? One to open and enjoy, and one to save mint in the box for collecting purposes?

I haven't done it. That would be too much of a money hit and space hit. I couldn't spend that much money.

I have doubles of all my wetmore monsters because once I almost dropped them down a waterfall. I decided it was a good idea to get spares just in case.
I also have a second Occamy because the first one seemed a little fragile and I feared the price would be too much If I wanted to replace a broken wing or something.
So basically, sometimes I buy a second pop for my own klutz insurance .

LOL, I barely have enough room for one of each.

I normally purchase 2 copies when I can since I’ve been the victim of poor packing. So, I feel that I will get one in minty fresh condition.

I generally just buy one - I don't have the space (or the money!
) for two of everything in my collection. I'm out of box anyway so it would kinda be pointless for me to get an extra just to hide away.

Nope. Couldn't afford it and would feel like too much decadence. One of each is enough. 99.5 percent of my Pop! collection is MIB anyway *shrugs*

I always take mine out of the box to display....but occasionally I just like how they look in the box and it takes me a few weeks to get them out and throw the box away.

Some I buy to keep in box for display stacked on shelves. Some I buy to open and display. For a few select ones, I do both. Yes, I have a shopping problem

I usually try to buy 2 and definitely 1 is going to be a mint boxed, but most of the time I end up just buying one because I'm broke
