Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
I understand the reasons for going OOB, but it will never happen for me. I do have actual mild ocd. And few things fill me with a greater sense of comfort than coming home to neat rows of pops stacked. Plus it doesn't hurt that almost no one that comes over and looks at them would have a clue who the characters were without the name being right there. You OOB people do you, but mine are going to stay nice and safe in their little homes.

Other than Pop, I collect a few other Funko product lines. But outside of that, no, but only because I can't really afford them. I used to collect Marvel Legends figures but they're up to like $20 now when I used to get them for about $12. If I could, I'd also collect statues like Kotobukiya and the DC Bombshells. As it is, I plan on saving up for the Aquaman Bombshell statue. For those though, I'd stick with comic book characters. Things could get way out of hand if I just went for anything I liked in those lines and styles
That bombshell line has been amazing. I can't afford to get into statues (wish I would have started collecting those Batman: Black and White statues years ago), but I think I'm going to make an exception for the Katana bombshell. It's just too great, and I'm a huge Batman and the Outsiders fan.

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
I was heavy into collecting a year ago, and then for no reason, I just stopped. After recently seeing Rogue One in the theater, I have renewed my desire to collect, Star Wars only though. I was strictly an in-the-box collector, but I decided to take BB-8 out of the box and that started a domino effect of what has become my out-of-the-box collecting. The details missed when in the box are numerous, and since my collection is now all Star Wars, I do not have to worry about them falling over (they each come with a stand).

I have collected Action Figures and Comics in the past. My LCS closed about 2.5 years ago and I just gave up...I miss reading the stories, but I don't miss buying the books, most are bagged and boarded in long boxes in my linen closet. I started collecting action figures when I was in college about 15 years ago. I was MIB all the way, I saw them as an investment...I realized about five years after I started collecting that these were a bad investment, I am now the proud owner of an incomplete toy line that is worth about $3.00 a piece and I have about 50 pieces, I don't even want to thing about what I paid for them. So, when I decided to start collecting Pops!, I decided that I would be out of box regardless of rarity and resale value. I find I have much more fun collecting this way. I do keep boxes for exclusives and I have never regretted removing a POP or a Dorbz from their package or throwing away/recycling the package.

Just out of curiosity, what toy line did you collect back in the day?

Statues and other toys are a bit different. They don't have the clear window for you to see the figure, so you have to take them out. Its completely different. The statues and non-Pop vinyl toys I have are all out on display. They don't look good sitting on a shelf inside a box.

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
I have around 130 Pops displayed OOB plus every single Pop Ride (37). I don't really like to look at any of them in the box, but I have many more still in boxes than I have out on display. The ones that are still in boxes are in plastic bins in storage awaiting their turn to be grandly displayed some day, although I'm starting to realize I'm acquiring them at a much faster rate then I can get displays set up, which means some are doomed to forever be in the box
I started collecting vintage models around 30 years ago. I don't display the boxes for those either, I like to build them and display the built versions. I also have a large collection of built and unbuilt R/C planes, collections of 70's era trading cards (Odd Rods, Silly Cycles, etc.) and quite a few artist-made clay miniature sculptures I've collected over the years. Have a few motorcycles too. Not models, the kind you ride on

I'm still pretty new to Pops but so far I've kept them in the box. I plan to have doubles of some of my favorites so I can have them OOB as well.

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
Currently, all of mine are boxed, but I am going to build black shelves, then liberate them all. Even the expensive pops are coming out, Flocked Beast, Phoenixes, Logans, Wolverines, 12th Doctor SDCC. All be free. I had some free in the past and they are more enjoyable to me when out. I don't get any real feelings if innate serenity by looking at stacks of funko boxes.. Maybe that is why.
Of course, the boxes will be kept safe somewhere else in protectors.

Aint got no room for boxed displays. Plus I paid for the back side of the vinyl...might as well check it out (and the boxes are not sealed).

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
I have a small number that are oob and the rest are in box. At the moment, it's just not feasible for me to display all of them oob. Being lazy about dusting is part of this as well.
As many others have said, the more expensive ones will stay in box (and probably in a Pop protector too). Though, I have taken one expensive one out to photograph and then it went back in the box!
They definitely do look better freed from their cages, but Brian made a great point that sometimes visitors won't know how the Pop is unless it's in the box. All of my oob Pops are Futurama and Batman though so those are all pretty recognizable.

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
I have a question for any OOB collectors who have had to move a large collection. How did you do it? I'm moving soon, and I'm super thankful that I have 99% of my 1200ish Pops in boxes. Yes, it sucks that I have 10 extra large moving boxes full of Pops, but I can't imagine having to pack all of those up to move if they were out of the box. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new place will be big enough to display the Pops and Hikari I have, although I might have to trim my collection to really enjoy it.

Re: Pop! in and out of box = different experiences
When I first began collecting POP's I kept them inside their box and then once I started to accumulate a large amount of them I quickly began running out of room. It was also a pain in the butt to keep the boxes together with the different series I was collecting so I just ditched the idea of boxes and bought some 3 their acrylic risers for my bookcases to display them on. I do think they look great in their boxes with the brand logo at the top but some of the POP's I've noticed some amazing detail on that doesn't shine through while they're inside of their package and that added to my decision to take them out and display them. Either way there is no true right or wrong way to display your POP's, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for me it's out of box and in full glory.
Once I finish my living area and hobby room I may begin re-buying POP's that I adore the most and keep them inside of their packaging, but for now I can fit about 40 on one shelf with the risers I've purchased and that saves me so much room that I can't see myself swaying from displaying them in this method.

I have some in the box, and others out of the box...for instance i took my Indy Jeep ride out of the box because I really like it as a pop. I have some others like Nathan Drake, I am planning to take out of the box on a permanent basis as well.
Some others like Marty or US Agent, I keep in the box because Im not as attached to them as I am to my others.

Man, if they were just a bunch of commons, I'd probably throw them in box filled with packing peanuts and call it a day...
