This reminds me of that thread the other day with the guy on Ebay selling grails for $99...half of the people posting were somehow hoping it was legit as a few of them had paid money...poppet a maybe one other person were the only ones who called scam from the get go...when it all turned to crap people got mad at the scammer when they should have used a little common sense. I sincerely hope this is legit and people get their goods, but I'm from the walks like a duck school...why in the world would someone with a legit Con exclusive only take orders via Instagram/PayPal? It just doesn't add up...good luck.

The shop is legit as i buy from them every time I go to Franks, but the way they did preorders is definitely shady. I can't wait til I go into Franks after these are out and see whatever ridiculous prices the other shops are trying to mark them up to.

Yeah I looked into Frank's as I definitely want the piece too and I see they're legit, but if you're going to take preorders you have to do it in a way people feel comfortable and even with PayPal processing payments the randomness of the Instagram thing didn't sit well with me. Stuff like that makes people weary of dealing with smaller retailers because half the time they are scams and makes legit businesses look bad as a whole. I really do hope it's real cause I do like that piece a lot.

I actually don't feel bad about missing out, despite knowing/hoping a metallic variant would pop up. I prefer to order and get my funko items through more secure and blantaly official means. Sure, paypal would of helped protect me somewhat, but why bother even taking the chance and putting myself into a lame predicament of having to send in claims to get money back from scammers??
I am pretty sure they would of made a lot more money if they had set up a more professional (if that's the proper word to be used) and more guaranteed and secure way of taking orders.

Nothing from Funko, but (and I realize this is still heresay) someone posting over on PPG said they know this guy and that he's a former designer for Funko who moved to LA and now runs his own shop at Frank & Sons. They said something like he got the option to do this exclusive as a thank you for his past work with them.

No idea if any of that is true, but maybe someone here can confirm or deny?

Funko has done limited run exclusives for smaller outfits like Harrison's Comics, Fugitive Toys, Gemini, Man of Action Figures and Previews and I don't remember them ever "announcing" those either, so lack of confirmation from Funko doesn't really mean anything at this point. Could be legit or could be a custom, we just don't know yet.

I saw funko finally officially announced this yesterday. This is frustrating it was so hard/sketchy to preorder. I wish the sticker was an Anime Expo specific one, that would have been cool.

Yeah I think it's too late, the last thing he posted about it on Instagram was the blurb I posted up above about reopening preorders for one day only. That was last Thursday. And he had upped the price a bit, before that it was 25 shipped but in that announcement it was 25+4 shipping.

You should sign up, it doesn't cost anything and you can "follow" Funko and its designers and see all kind of cool stuff that they post! But in the meantime I sent them a message on your behalf asking for their booth name/ number, I'll let you know what they say.
