I was so confused because I thought there was a Sabo pop that came out that I didn't know about but you meant soba mask haha I think the clear/milky is an interesting chase, but the execution of the look is just bad. That's coming more down to quality control rather than it being a bad chase. I agree color variant are bad, like Jinbei but I had to get it since it's his first pop

One of my favorite chases is the Jack Torrance chase! Im a huge Shining fan, and I know its the same sculpt but the chase paint job changed the figure from regular dull boy Jack to frozen Jack which was an iconic scene!

Worst Chases: All die cast. They look better in their original color.

Honestly, I almost trace the fall off of chases to that specific one. I remember trying hard to find the walgreens chase green goblin and even the independence day alien, but after Doghan Daguis I just started losing interest.

My local comic shop always prices up chases. Usually $30-40 bucks. The owner doesn’t really know much about pops, but when he got the Doghan Daguis pop in stock he priced it at $2-3 dollars above retail. He knew it wouldn’t sell and it actually didn’t until he had an anniversary sale where pops were 50% off.

-Worst Chase: Sub-Zero, Just a little change in his hand with the power.

After a while all non-retail shops selling pops were doing that. I might justify $30 if it meant saving me the time/gas to drive around town or getting it off ebay, but it'd have to be one I really really wanted. The last time I voluntarily paid for a low-end chase was the tron gitd set.

Yeah, comic shops tend to look at chases as comics’ equivalents of incentive/ratio variants, which is partly why they price them up.

Worst : …

He’s supposed to be invisible so it makes sense in theory, just not executed well at all. still better than the Luffy with amazing chase of “black hand”

Best - I would say anything that has a completely different mold. The Fight Club one was a great comparison; one of the best ones (at least for sodas) is the Keymaster with the Terror Dog as the chase. My least favorites are the ones with very minute changes such as the Luffy Fundom Exclusive.

For me the best chases have a different pose or completely different look. Like the clear invisible man chase. The least exciting are the ones that have very small changes like blood splatter. I still own a few of them though lol. That sticker hunt is addictive

I love the OG DC chases. They started it all! Not that there was much too them outside the metallic but I remember thinking how cool it was to have chases and hunting for those at the few stores carrying Funko at the time.
Love to Collect the 80s stuff. Also chasing the OG Rocky Set. First Funko Purchase was 2012 SDCC.

Best - lot of the Sodas/Pops that the mold is different or just a vast different mold like Carl from Up or Hades with the rage Chases. Something that makes sense.
Worst - Either slapping on a metallic or glow that makes no sense or Like the Crow Soda where you have to look closer to see the crow on his arm.

Same, I miss the good old days when you can go to a ht and just find of these there.

Different times indeed…it’s a whole different ballgame now. Hopefully it’s cyclical but I doubt it.

This is a good notable mention. Like last time they’ve done this (although it was a target exclusive) was the 2 pack of the twins from the movie the shining. Think sometimes (like Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.), pops up randomly at fedex stores or ups. No joke. I was in shock when I saw this Wonder Woman chase and this was in 2022.

I miss seeing sdcc chases. Those were simply amazing and fun. Not like I own any because it just never occurred to me that I must get them. lol

Bad chases, well, a chase is a chase — but bad decision idea would be Stitch that glows from EE. The common and the chase glows. Only difference was subtle of it. Unless that’s an error…?

I have a very strong opinion on what I consider to be the best chase and worst common.

Stitch with Record Player Funko Shop Exclusive.

Now hear me out. The Chase is fantastic. It's the moment Stitch plays music from his mouth when touching a record. It's perfect.

The common? Without the chase, it has very little context and is just Stitch staring at you while touching some random object. If you have the chase, fantastic, they go together wonderfully! It's each individual moment where he opens and closes his mouth. Without it? Bleh.

And yes, I did some heavy hunting for it and just turned up a bunch of commons of Stitch giving me a dirty look while touching something, as if to say "Go on, try me b--ch."

The common should have been open mouth Stitch, and the closed mouth chase adds more context to the whole thing.

Lol, sigh.

On another note, I'm thinking about taking a couple and cutting the record player off and making him touch other things...

Yeah, those ones were weird. From the fact that it was 2 chases in a box, to the fact that they were very similar in look, to the fact that the chases were mis-stickered iirc, so the common was the chase lol. Not to mention how mediocre the movie was, lol.

I get the chase and it’s cool, but the worst chase to me is the Chubbs Peterson chase variant from Happy Gilmore. It’s just him missing a few fingers. Lol At least, change the outfit to when he did lose fingers.

The best chase to me is the Georgie Denbrough from the movie “IT”. Not only does the chase variant has severed arm and a slight color change, but it has a bloody window on the box.
