Re: New Star Wars POP! figures (Periscope)
I think the problem some people have is while i agree that it is nice to have certain background characters, they should have come after certain key characters like mace windu, young obi-wan, anakin in some form(please not kid pod racer ani), grevious. My wife looks at my crazy enough when i bring home 4 or 6 of them(star wars only mind you) and have to explain where 2 or 3 of them were even at in the movies and she's seen them about as many times as i have. The latest walgreen's set was pretty good as those were well needed clone wars characters.

I do agree with showing love to obscure characters, but I also wish they showed love to some big name characters. How is it possible that there is no Windu, Dooku and Grievous, or even Anakin!

Sadly..to a lot of people, Mace, Dooku, and the General are obscure characters. Some people ignore the prequel era completely. That makes it tough for people like me who want to see Cad Bane, Savage Opress, and Ventress because they're even more obscure. We'll get one for sure but it's still puzzling its taken so long to get an Ahsoka!

Re: New Star Wars POP! figures (Periscope)
To be honest, my wife hates the prequels because she sees anakin as a whiny b**** which i can understand. I like them because of the special effects and back story but i'll be the first to say, i tell people to watch them machete-style and skip 1 altogether. I'll give them the cliff notes if they want to know them. I'd hope we will get 2 or 3 versions of ahsoka (Youngling, padawan, and then Rebels version). I just got done watching Clone wars like 2 months ago and now i want a a few of the bounty hunters and clone (and not convention exclusive, sell an organ to buy, versions) like Rex and Hardcase

I'm with you on that! It took the Clone Wars to get me overlook a lot of the uhhhh questionable choices made with the prequels.

Re: New Star Wars POP! figures (Periscope)
Hopefully with time we will get a young Anakin from episode 1 and an older Anakin w/scar from episode 3, but that's not all...
Ki-Adi Mundi, Mace Windu, Chancellor Palpatine (ep1), Emperor Palpatine (ep3), Sio Bubble, Captain Tarpals, Darth Tyrannus/Count Dooku, Jango Fett, and others are needed from the prequel trilogy. My hope is that by early 2017 we see these figures released and with the latest offerings of Plo Koon and Kit Fisto I'm confident that we will see some good things down the line.
Also, as far as the original trilogy goes, I'm tossing my name in the hat for a carbonite Han, Max Rebo, and a re-release of Lando and the Emperor. Make it happen Funko!

Re: New Star Wars POP! figures (Periscope)
It all depends on how deep into the Star Wars universe they can/want to venture. A lot of the characters you all are mentioning were only ever depicted in the animated series. If they stick with movies only than it's a far shot they will be seen.

They did the 501st, shock, and shadow troopers which i can't recall ever being mentioned in the movies but those were con exclusives so... but i think they are going pretty deep in with the likes of varmik, ree yees, and snaggletooth.

It's also worth remembering that all Funko can do is present concepts to Lucas/Disney. The IP owner has final say in what Funko does and doesn't make. If Disney doesn't want a Mace Windorable pop, we don't get a Jango's murderer bobble head. I am confident we will see a lot of the CW/prequel gaps filled in once they finish up with TFA, Rebels and classic

Shock and 501st troopers, while not mentioned by name maybe, were definitely in Episode III and the Clone Wars animated series. There are 3 different variations of the Shadowtrooper and all 3 fall under the Legends banner at this point I believe.

Yeah i guess you are right. I know they were atleast shown when anakin marched on the jedi temple but they were a big part in the CW. Shadowtroopers are the big one that i was referring to.

I agree and disagree. It's true Hasbro doesn't do this, but Funko is really only repurposing more "insignificant" characters who, by nature of the Kenner line in the 80s, are highly recognizable now to the target, nostalgic wallet for this collection; nevertheless, they do the license justice (...only to then haunt us with store exclusives we never faced as kids in the 80s. Why can't they just bring back the mail-a-away for cool chase figures?!?)

Those are probably the most obscure paths outside of a couple of TFA picks (but not unexpected) IMO.

If anyone in MA is looking for the recent Walgreens Star Wars Pops it appears that a lot of the stores re-stocked in the last day or so. I saw 2 full sets in Lexington , Ma today and all were in pristine condition.
I'll be running by the Dedham location as well to see what they have. I have not given up on finding a Spirit Yoda yet! Trying to avoid ebay on that one!

Re: New Star Wars POP! figures (Periscope)
Personally, I love Star Wars and it's one my main collections (absent of course the big SDCC ones and Han/Luke as Stormtroopers). But as a child of the 80s who was 19 when Episode I came out, I thought the prequels were bloody awful, and I don't care if they ever make more prequel ones. I've also never watched the Clone Wars cartoons for a variety of reasons.
It all comes down to personal taste. If they make more prequel ones, I'll buy em, but I'd MUCH rather see more from the original trilogy. And there are plenty of characters left to mine from there.

BillyVegas wrote:I think the thing I love most about the Star Wars line of POPS is that Funko isn't afraid to make figures based off of obscure and insignificant characters, which is something that as of late has been the case with Hasbro and their Star Wars figure license. Back in the day with Kenner and Hasbro there was no fear in producing figures based off of characters like Ree Yees, Gamorrean Guard, Bib Fortuna, or vehicle drivers, and these kinds of characters were all well represented with action figures all their own. Lately it appears as if these practices are no longer the norm for Hasbro and their "Black Series" has suffered because of it with released of big names only with little to no love for obscure characters. I don't know if this is the case for their core 3.75 scale The Force Awakens figures too, but over the past 4-5 years Hasbro's output has been "meh" at best. Funko on the other hand has given us characters such as the ones I mentioned earlier as well as drivers of various Star Wars vehicles and variants that make the collector in all of us scream with enjoyment (if only they'd make more Rides packs). It's totally refreshing.
Keep it up Funko and you'll be earning my money for a very long time to come.
I have to disagree with you. Up until Disney bought Star Wars, we were still getting a lot of background and "third guy from the left" type characters.
The Black series has definitely not suffered at all. Every wave has a pegwarmer in almost every series of action figures. Aside from the glut of Greedo and Slave Leia, the original few sets MOVED. Obi-Wan was the pegwarmer from the second packaging change. And the current figures all move very well except for Finn and Kylo Ren (overproduction), and the Guavian Enforcer, Constable Zuvio, and the FO Snow Trooper...who are all *ahem* obscure characters.

I only have on preorder the GS exclusive Rey. I was going to preorder the Poe FYE exclusive, but it ends up coming to $20 after shipping... Think I might wait and try to trade for him.

Im getting whatever I dont already have. Which means no more Reys or Poe Damerons or Kylo Rens or Leias.
It's still not as bad as what they did with the Burton Alice in Wonderland. Which was release the characters from the first movie and then a couple months later release the same exact characters but slightly different for the sequel. Yet we can't get anything aside from Alice and Cheshire from the original (far superior) animated version.

Yes! I'll end up grabbing both Poe's just so I stay up to date with the line. Considering I paid $45 for the Special Forces Tie Fighter I plan to stay completely up to date
I actually really like the HT exclusive Poe. Personally think it looks a lot better than the FYE exclusive. I like how he doesn't have his scar on his face, since it was before he encountered Kylo. Also love that its his original jacket and he's holding a blaster. The FYE exclusive just looks so dull and boring for me to preorder for $20, when we have the no helmet Poe already, which imo looks really great compared to this one.

Same! Like I said I've been waiting months for these to drop and my only worry is how limited the exclusives will be at SDCC/NYCC, if they do indeed have them. Which there is a very strong possibility they will.

I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling that this year Freddy Vader will make his appearance. Also, I think that a holographic supreme leader snoke will be at SDCC.

I've been keeping a *complete* SW:TFA set -- not easy, but so far up to date. I pre-ordered all the commons from this upcoming wave from different online retailers who had the best price. I also pre-ordered the GS exclusive Rey and FYE exclusive Poe -- the hunt for the rest will be easy I hope.

I'm a huge fan of the Force Awakens line and have every single one and even I think its questionable why we are getting a jumpsuit Poe.
I'm also a huge fan of the force awakens line, Are you getting the HT exclusive Poe?
I'd probably get the jumpsuit Poe just to head swap it with the Wal-Mart Poe. The Wal-Mart one doesn't have his stubble

I thought the release for the non-exclusives was 6/30, but I believe that includes the GS exclusive, so maybe the others as well? I know the original trilogy ones (RotJ Luke, Dagobah Yoda, and Bespin Luke) have a release date of 8/15. Between all of these and SDCC and SWC, it's gonna be a crazy few months!
SDCC 2011-2023; Fundays 2016-2022; NYCC 2014-2022; Fright Night II 2022; SWCO 2017; D23 Expo 2015/2017

Toy Wars is getting an exclusive Zuckuss. It will go on sale June 21st at 9 AM. Not sure what time zone. I'm assuming ET.
EDIT: I'm hearing it's PT.

I have to say that I am very disappointed with this sculpt, especially compared to how amazing 4-LOM looks. I will be passing on him. I have to imagine Dengar isn't too far behind.
