Whit the eccc conversation coming up and funko allowing some at a chance to get the official con sticker online and in store and not only at the con what does everyone think about this?
For one I get why they maybe doing this is because shared sticker pops are not selling out like they once did and with a chance at getting a official con sticker from your online order helps drive sells to help get the shared product sold as well and that's great for the company and the collecting community creates supply and demand if everything sells out but on the other hand you stop the special privilege you have of only getting the con sticker at the con and make it were people may just stay home and take the dice roll on the chance at an official sticker for way less cost of traveling to the convention and all the cost it brings with it but with that said if I pay all that money shouldn't I as a convention Attendee get the only shot at get the con pops and everyone that didn't attend get the shared sticker.. just wondering were people are on this I see both sides

Re: Eccc chance at con sticker
I personally don't like it. It's so hard to get product at the convention so the sticker really is a premium. Selling them online with the con stickers literally devalues them. For the people that don't understand the difference then the shared sticker shouldn't matter to them. But for the people that actually took the time and stress to actually get them at the con is a slap in the face. It's SO hard nowadays with lottery to even get a chance at the booth. Then hope it hasn't sold out. If they start selling con stickers online, I would assume people would skip the headache of the con and just try online. Saves time and money. They'll lose the hype at all major cons. I already saw the decline at SDCC... it will only make it worse.

I’m inclined to agree, but it also depends on the odds of getting a sticker online. Chase odds or better is too high. If it was much lower like 1:12 or even lower, then it might be enticing enough for people to try online, but rare enough to not discourage people from trying to get into the booth for the guaranteed chance.

Temporarily good for Funko, will likely increase sales, and will make the online sale more interesting for some buyers. Inevitably however this will continue to diminish the desire to collect Funko as a whole. Collecting is collecting because whatever you are collecting is either difficult to obtain, is rare or is something very specific that a person wants to own. A true collector usually has a purpose of what they are collecting... if every Funko Pop I ever wanted was available online or at Walmart, I'd likely stop collecting it. There is no thrill, excitement or desire to continue to pile up figures that everyone owns or can easily obtain. I want to someday look at my collection and say, that's the 2010 LE 240 Batman, the grail of my collection. I don't have the money to buy most grails on secondary markets, so attending conventions or events for "con-only" items, makes collecting more fun, even if I am unable to get all the figures I might want.
If they go this direction, they should them have more "con only" figures in each years release. Try to offset the lack of exclusivity of the other items...

I get it but remember people have a chance of getting some con stickers online. Chance being the key word. We all know most of the inventory is going to be at the con with small batches being sent to the stores and available online. If we were to break it down, here's how I see it going and I'd love to hear some feedback from people to get their points of views as well. If they made 15k of one pop (10k for the con [typically has the most being sold at the actual con], 1k for the stores [100 con sticker and 400 shared each store], and 3k online [500 being con and 2,500 being shared]). That's not a lot of con pops being offered to the general public who aren't going to the con. And these numbers are just generalized and pulled out of thin air. Just trying to put a number to it to make it more relatable and understandable. In total, if we used these numbers, that would mean there were only 700 con stickers spread out along three different places for people to try and get them. That's not a lot. You still have a better chance of getting them at the con.

I think it's better to have two versions. Otherwise, what is the incentive to go to these shows. I'm fine with the general show sticker for the shows I can't attend in person but for those going, it's just an extra thing to make the event special.

I mean it's already nearly impossible to get lottery to even get in the booth at SDCC. So you're already taking a chance to get lucky buying tickets for $$$ and then finding a hotel that is $$$$ and then if you're out of state buying plane tickets which is more $$$. Then try and get IN the booth. And THEN hope it's not sold out. Theres a group of 4 friends I go with for all days plus preview night and we put all our lottery tickets into funko. Not a single one of us got the booth. That's a lot of money and hoops to get nothing. Just stay home and blow that money on buying as many pieces as you can and hope you get the sticker. It's the same amount of hope and chance if you were to go in person.
But also...I feel like someone buying online doesn't truly care about the sticker. It's like me wanting a magnet souvenir from a place I have never even been to. The sticker is basically status and if someone can have a chance to buy it direct from funko shop then whats the point.

Luckily we are going to see what happens. Once ECCC is over, the market is going to tell us how it went. We'll get direct feedback from people who were at the con and people who ordered online and got lucky with a con sticker. This is the feedback I can't wait to see because then we will know if Funko's strategy was successful. I imgaine they will try a couple of cons to get a base and determine if it was a success or not.
