Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

Postby Stush » Wed Sep 17, 2025 12:49 pm

So, Kris Kringle & Topper were released. Is it odd to anyone else - or is it just me - that they didn't release more characters? Like Jessica, the old Santa and Mrs.Kringle, Special Delivery Kluger (Postman) and his vehicle - could obviously be a Ride, Burgermeister Meisterburger, Grimsley and of course the one that would be amazingly awesome... The Winter Warlock. He could easily be a 6" or 10" Pop!

Of course, it's only September and more could still release this year or next year. Again, just find it unusual that there was just one release at first or at all for this show/characters.

Thoughts?

It drives me a bit crazy when Funko doesn't release enough characters in a line. Drooper in the Banana Splits Soda line is a great example (this still really bugs me). I can get why they might start off slower in the beginning. Perhaps they want to guage the interest first with Buddy Kris. If they release enough characters, it's a definite buy for me. I grew up on this Christmas special.

I could live without the older Santa and Mrs K since there are so many santas already, but Jessica, the Burgermeister, S.D. Kruger, and the Warlock are a must (well, imo).

Christmas is such a huge holiday that one would think they would expand the line. Maybe down the road we might get more characters as I feel the same about Rudolph. :freddy3:

I hear ya. I could probably live with out the older Santa and Mrs. K but I do kinda have a small Santa collection - so at the same time I wouldn't mind those. LOL But, yeah, Jessica, Burgermeister, S.D. Kruger and definitely Winter Warlock I'll buy for sure. I grew up with it as well. So glad they did Buddy Kris and Topper - but as I said - I'm really hoping that at some point they continue the line.

I was thinking the same thing that they may be gauging interest. The thing is I can see people buying S.D. Kruger especially if he had his postal vehicle and Winter Warlock even if they didn't release Buddy Kris and Topper. I really think people would be all over Winter. So if they are gauging interest just on the sales of Buddy Kris they might me missing out. That's obviously just my opinion.

Agreed. I think the more Christmas the better. Ha Ha. Rudolph is a good example of how they didn't release everything in one year. If I remember correctly didn't they expand the line the year after the initial release(s)? Then again they released more than just Rudolph at first. They dropped more than one character for Home Alone, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. Home Alone has quite a few releases of all kinds. Plus they just dropped ones from Home Alone 2.

I think you're right about that. Winter Warlock and S.D. Kruger would have been my first-wave picks, as well, along with Buddy Kris. Those three, imo, would be a much better gauge of interest.

I almost forgot this one released - thank you for the reminder! The Rankin Bass specials were some of my favorites growing up as a kid. Lots of great memories!

Yep, those are must-haves I think. Maybe that's why they didn't use them to gauge interest? Because if you already know or believe people are going to buys those then maybe you should release one that's not a lock for sales? Then again, I think Buddy Kris especially with Topper is a must-have. So what do I know? LOL

Glad I could help out. :thumbleft: Same here, the Rankin Bass specials were always something we looked forward to. I don't remember a year that we didn't watch them. Even now, I don't think we've skipped a year.

I got to thinking about this again, and if they only put out Kris K and Topper, I don't see myself buying it. Not that I don't think Santa Claus is Coming to Town isn't brilliant, but having just the one character won't cut it for me. Maybe because I collect so few PoP, but having a one-off doesn't appeal to me. I like things in sets.

As PoP collectors, how do you feel about this? Will you be likely to buy just this one in the hopes of more coming. And if a lot of collectors don't buy it for the same reason as me, then they may not make more because they'll have a false sense of the true interest in these. :-k Quite the conundrum.

I hear ya and understand. I do get one-offs. There have been quite a few that I have only one-offs of. I've been very surprised that they only did one from certain shows, movies, etc. If I didn't get the one-offs then I wouldn't have any at all of that show, movie, etc. So I do buy them. I ended up buying Kris K and Topper. I'm a huge Christmas fan and I do like having a collection of Santas. So Kris K will fit in with the Santa collection at least.

You bring up a good point - I wonder how many people are holding off or not buying Kris K and Topper for this exact reason you brought up? That very well could influence their decision or perhaps they being collectors themselves would be aware of this. Then again if they were aware of this as collectors than why did they only release Kris K and Topper? LOL Obviously I'm a bit confused as to why they didn't drop more from this line either at the time Kris K and Topper dropped or later, like now? With Christmas being at the forefront very soon since Halloween is this Friday - maybe they're waiting to release more this year after Halloween? Maybe there are issues of some kind? This TV Special is right up there with Rudolph on my must-watch list - it's been that way for me since I can remember. Rudolph is the king of RB's Christmas Specials but the fact that Santa Claus is Coming to Town is part of the RB family of shows and there are collectors of everything RB you'd think that would be enough reason to release more. I also think people who might not know the show - if that's possible - would still think the Winter Warlock, not to mention the other characters - to be cool enough to buy. Especially if they did a 6" or 10" Winter W. That would be amazing!

Not related to this line but your general question: for me it definitely depends and I have no set pattern. Lines like DC, specifically Batman, could go on forever. I could have only Batmans and ignore the rest of the characters or just cherry pick them. Same goes for something like the XMen. There’s hundreds of them. I used to have the original Watchmen pops but sold them long ago because it felt weird having two characters from that series. Now they’re making more but how many will they eventually make?

I have become more acceptable of certain one offs. I have the complete Breaking Bad set for example but I’ve thought about getting rid of that since I have the main character in another Funko format and don’t feel the need to have multiple variants of each character in pop form.

I would think it would be weird to have 3 of the Beatles and Funko just ignore one of them. That’s something I wouldn’t collect.

I hear ya and understand. I'm kinda like that with certain characters. But a lot of the time as long as I have the main character that I want I don't always feel the need to get the others in the line. I love the John Wick movies and I have all of the John Wick Pops but for some reason I can't get myself to buy Winston. Sometimes he's on-sale for a really good price but I still haven't bought him. But I feel like I should have him because there aren't anymore characters that have been offered and it's only one more usually for less that retail. So I do at times feel the need to "complete" the line or set. I'm also OK with having one-offs. For lines that aren't absolute musts for me I seem to either have one-offs or more than 3 though. If the line has more than two I usually get at least three. Sometimes there are just too many and I only get my favorites or my favorite 3. Things display better in odd numbers. :)

Well, I think the Christmas movies and TV specials releases were not as abundant as years past. Obviously just Kris K and Topper for Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I'm a little bummed about that. Hopefully if all goes well for Funko next Christmas will be better.

I'm right there with you. I was hoping for just one more Santa Claus is Comin' To Town release. Even one more and i would have bought them. Like you, fingers crossed for next year.
