Ghostbusters (2016) POPs

Postby kings5504 » Fri Nov 06, 2015 11:38 am

Haven't seen this posted anywhere here (also used the Search function) so here goes: Stumbled upon THIS LINK while browsing a LEGO board.

"Mattel is also doing a board game and six-inch figures of both the classic Ghostbusters and the brand new movie. The firm is developing a new Eco-1 and the collectable characters can fit into the car. Mattel is also creating the Proton Pack. What kid would not want to throw that on?

“Alongside Mattel, we have LEGO on board, Funko doing Pop! Vinyl and Rubie’s is making costumes. It’s expansive. We have something for everyone, whether you’re a collector or an everyday toy buyer.”

I didn't even know a new one was in the works. Boy I don't know. For me Ghostbusters will always be:

This reboot is the stuff of nightmares. I'll still see it in theaters, but I'm not expecting much... At all.

Don't really see this as a remake or a reboot since they are using completely new characters. I consider this an expanded alternate universe for Ghosbusters.

it's a remake, they are taking the basic concept of a preexisting work and erasing said work from their universe. had it been a reboot and this was 4 ladies starting up their own GB franchise and having whacky paranormal adventures I think a lot of the complaining would be quieted.

I don't really see it as a remake. If you look at the list of characters there is no Venkman, Stanz, Spengler, and Zeddemore in the film. Plus the plot is totally different from the original film. Only thing they share is ghostbusting.

"Erin Gilbert (Wiig) and Abby Yates (McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. A few years later, Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Gilbert reunites with Yates and others when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world."

I see this as what the DC Elseworlds stories are, a "what if" scenario. Sony has already stated that once this film is out they are making an official all male remake and looking to cast Channing Tatum. I'll take this over that any day.

I see it as trying to cash in on a well-loved franchise. Nothing more, nothing less. That being said, I can't wait to get these Pops.

just look at the picture of them, 2 super nerds, a black person and a 4th who will likely be the wisecracker. just because they don't share names doesn't stop it from being a remake.

I feel like people are judging this WAY too hard. I mean we really don't know anything about the plot and there isn't even a trailer out yet! I'm not going to judge anything until I actually see the movie. All the main actors are incredibly funny and talented so at least it'll be worth it to just watch their performances.

So none of the characters from the original movie exist in this universe and the plot is completely different but since the characters share the same traits as the original characters it's a remake? Is there any other remake of a film that doesn't use any of the original characters names?

Every bit as ridiculous and unnecessary as those demanding The Doctor regenerate into a female at some point not for story sake, but just to make the PC brigades happy. I won't see it. McCarthy is NOT funny.

But...Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are all confirmed to be in it.

That said, I've personally got no real opinion on this movie until I actually see it, or at least see a trailer.

They stated they are making cameo appearances in the film but not as their original characters.

it's got the same concept, same title, hell the same logo. I don't give a crap that it's a remake but how in the world do you not think it's a remake?

Because it's not really remaking anything from the 1984 Ghostbusters. It like making a movie called Batman but the person in the costume is not Bruce Wayne it some new character. Then the costume slightly resembles the 1989 costume and some plot concepts are the same too plus Keaton has a cameo. That's makes it a 100% remake of the 1989 Batman.

I'm not mad, or bitter, because Hollywood will always do what they want and I'm used to it by now.
That said, I'm 38 years old, grew up on the original movies, so there is nothing in the new movie that interests me at all.
I'll probably give it a little Redbox money, and nothing more. For a fact won't buy any products from it, just not that interested.

Not like I won't still spend hundreds upon hundreds on other Pops, so no loss to Funko if I don't buy them, lol. :D

I've been checking out the on set pictures for this movie and I think it looks great. The fact it has a female cast is extremely appealing to me, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Paul Feig does amazing work so I think it has a good chance of being awesome, and I may pick the Pops up if I enjoy the film.

Not that interested in this movie movie if it's a remake, I don't get this new thing of doing variants to the original movie versions. I don't want a Wonderman, a white Berverly Hill Cop, etc... I think it's a twisted idea/misconception of "equality of genders and races".

I propose that now they should make a movie where Lighting McQueen is a bicycle.

I can't wait for this movie. Paul Feig directing and Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy starring? I would love to have those 2 in Pop form. I never cared much for the original movies, so even if this new movie doesn't appeal to those who loved the old ones, it's appealing to potential new fans, precisely because of the new cast.

"'Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted'. This is what I have an issue with.. Ladies? Sure! Get some ladies on the team! All ladies? Whatever, not sure it makes a whole lot of sense but I'm actually okay with a full female team. All the original cast members returning for minor cameos? This is why I'm frustrated. Why not pass the torch? Why not continue on from what they built in the beginning? You've got all the original cast members in it anyway. Come up with a clever and fitting way that Egon died during an experiment and pass the torch onto these new ladies. Why restart a new "canon"? I'd love to see the remaining guys similarly to where we saw them in the beginning of Ghostbusters 2. Old, out of shape, unwilling to put the tan back on and strap a proton pack to their backs. I do not want to see the original actors driving cabs or being scared bellhops. Have respect for the original actors and the original fans and give us some closure on where the original guys ended up. Then pass the torch and make sub-par crap movies for the rest of eternity. At least we got to see the guys one last time before the movies turn into the modern crap that all movies are now."

....Not make sense? Why doesn't an all-lady team make sense? The last team was all-male... why...can't ....theirs... be.... all...female......?

And I'm confused (blame it on my teeny-tiny lady-brain #-o ), but this movie hasn't come out yet, right? I don't keep up with movie releases like I did when I was younger, but I'm pretty sure there's still a few more months to go until this movie is released. How did you find out exactly what cameos the original stars did so that you could judge a movie so harshly before its even come out in theaters?

Classic how this pop! thread turned into a movie thread. To keep on topic, I like the pop!s I saw from the toy fair catalog. Even if the movie is a bust we still get some cool pop!s. That wailing ghost one looks pretty awesome imo.
