No because I was burned by Two-Face and original Loki back when I first started collecting
Now I try and buy things I want quickly for fear of missing it.

Nope. If I like it, I will buy the Pop, regardless of its value.nyraza wrote:So I've had this question for the community for a while and want to know buying habits.
to rephrase : Do you ever delay purchasing a Pop! because its always available?
Personally I think I do. When I originally started buying pops, I'd grab everything from a set as i didnt want to miss any of my favorite characters and sets. But nowadays there are SO many sets that I leave incomplete and dont purchase because I know theyll forever be available. An example is Mortal Kombat (which isnt a priority collection), which I grabbed the entire set upon release. Since then I've had Aladdin Wave, DBS wave and many more release, but I've only grabbed the exclusives and havent picked up the set of commons, as most pieces dont get vaulted anymore and I dont feel the need to purchase as I previously did. I think what originally got me going was the love of the pop combined with the thrill of the hunt, now since I can pick up common pops years after release, I dont buy them in sets, and just trade.
Would love to hear what other ppls buying habits are for commons.

So true. I remember collecting when Hot Topic only had one shelf of pops in the stores and no one knew what they were. Once I heard about pops getting vaulted, I was like oh it's because no one wants it. And then everyone wanted them

Yep. The Mayor from Nightmare Before Christmas was my first experience with that. I couldn't believe how fast that one started to shoot up in value once it got vaulted.

No a Pop not being vaulted doesn’t stop me from buying because you never know when a Pop will be vaulted. If it was a common or exclusive or not. I prefer to collect things in my collection that I like instead of just what is popular.

This. Obviously, with things like SDCC, I will jump on them, but it's only stuff that I would WANT to buy. I don't automatically want something that I wouldn't ordinarily want JUST because of it's perceived "value." I think the $$$$ Hawks are ruining the fun.

Re: Does a Pop! not being vaulted ever cause you to delay buying?
If I'm hesitant that I want it, I won't buy it.
I feel as if I'm curbing my collection every 6 months because I impulsively buy Pops I THINK I need, only to discover later that...I really don't. This mistake happens when a line first drops AND right as they're being vaulted. "No way, the new Infinity War Pops just hit Hot Topic! I've got some Hot Cash, I'll buy 'em all!" turns into "Do I really need this version of Cap when his World War II variant is so much better? And why did I buy any of the Black Order again?" six months down the line haha. So lately I have become a lot more selective in terms of buying Pops I know are evergreen to me. I knew that I didn't NEED 8-Bit Felix when I went into Hot Topic on SDCC morning, but you better believe I picked up Black Phillip the second I saw him during that same trip!
I also don't really flip (I keep the boxes for the more rare figures I do end up buying strictly in case of an emergency and I NEED to sell), so the idea of buying a figure strictly to sell later is kind of foreign to me. Judging from glances at ebay, maybe it's time for me to throw away my conscience in that regard

No I’m impatient, I literally preorder everything I want. Cost more but I can’t risk it. For instance I preordered most of the James Bond pops now I’m seeing them all discounted for less than half of what I paid.

As a SW completist, I used to pre-order commons. Now I try to be chill and wait til they're out and decrease in value. And if they do become harder to find, I try to wait and see if I can pick them up locally at NYCC.

There are times I put off buying commons because I know I have time to buy them. Especially when there is a convention coming up or if I am waiting for a sale. But once they are either a good price on Amazon or it is Hot Cash time (or a Gamestop sale) then I but them.

My rule of thumb is that I'll buy it if really love it even if it's a common.

I tend to just buy ones I really love. There's one or two commons I put off buying because I thought I just had plenty of time to pick them up at a con or whatever - and then they ended up vaulted and worth over $100 that I'm still kind of sad about.

It used to not, I would go hunt on my weekends and buy everything I needed.
Everything changed when I saw them do a remodel at our local Targets. Many of the Harry Potter pops from the last wave went on sale. Now I may not be patient enough to wait for that kind of sale, but I decided I could wait to find commons at Target. They're essentially 30-35% cheaper than buying elsewhere.

I prefer to get my exclusives first then I can go back to focusing on vaulted or other rare pops. Then once I get a few of those I finish the sets I want to. Not really in a rush to complete sets anymore.

No, because if i like the pop, I buy it (if it's at retail or a reasonable price). Don't care if it's vaulted or not, feel like that shouldn't matter

I've been able to get some of the past GOT commons for clearance like Grey worm, jaime, and samwell but I also missed Baelish and Margery so it works but also backfires haha.

Re: Does a Pop! not being vaulted ever cause you to delay buying?
I feel exactly the same as OP. I used to buy everything up as fast as I could because I thought they would only be available for a limited amount of time, be it a few months or a year. Now it seems 90% of every common I've bought you can still find on Amazon and in some stores, so I hold off unless it's something I just really really want to have now.
Now with so many exclusives always on my radar constantly, I focus on those and just buy commons when they are getting harder to find or they're on sale.

I buy the Pops or figures that I want not because they will be worth money one day or being they will be more desirable because they are vaulted. I saw a headless Ned for very cheap back in 2013 and knew it would skyrocket in price but I don't like Game of Thrones and don't watch it and left there for another collector...and I am not sorry I did

I buy pops that I like. Never think whether a pop is vaulted whether I should buy one or not. I prefer the Le from a con just because I assume they don’t plan to make that one again..although it doesn’t mean, they won’t use the same mold in a different way.... flocked, Chrome, etc

I've definitely slowed down on buying commons with the (sometimes incorrect) notion that I can get them later. It's a crap shoot as to if they'll be worth even retail price, or get vaulted and shoot up in value.

If I see a common and like it and its in pristine condition, I will buy it even though it may be around everywhere, finding a pristine condition box is not that easy. Case in point is the Black Panther Shuri pop. I have been wanting that pop for some time now but have yet to find a good box so the search goes on. On the other hand some limited pops like the target ad icons, I had to settle for less than perfect boxes since I only saw them once.
1st pop Marvel Thor bobble head and Captain America (2011) Walked into booth at SDCC and purchased in less than 5 minutes.

Nope.
Doesn't matter to me at all whether it's vaulted or not. If I want it, I buy it as soon as I can.
If I don't, then being vaulted doesn't change my mind.

No, I learned my lesson with Thorin thinking it'd be around forever, boy was I wrong. Now, due to budget reasons I just wait to get Common Pops asap during hot cash or lunch money.

I usually buy the ones that I really like first. Then for other regular pops, I just wait for it to go on sale so I can complete the line. If it's announced that a pop has been vaulted already, I try to buy it as soon as I can.
