Ahhhh man, you're really handy with plaster and paint. I'm jealous haha I'm just using the stand that came with the 3-pack to construct my Jabba's Palace. Though those LED lights are phenomenal...I may have to start implementing lights into my display...

You must have a lot of time on your hands and I mean that in the very best way because that setup is amazing. The attention to detail and precision is solid. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I tried to make a snow landscape for my white walker custom but failed miserably. These displays are amazing! Great job and keep posting the progress pics.

I also collect out of box and have put together one or two dioramas for my pops, others aren't finished yet, but I do like playing around, making, and imaging how they will look. Love your dioramas so far keep up the good work.

Wow, thank you all for the awesome comments, they are extremely flattering
And believe me, they really help me to stay motivated! Believe it or not my kids and girlfriend have pretty much zero interest in this kind of stuff so it's great to get some encouragement from all of you
I did do a little more work on it yesterday, I decided it wouldn't be complete without Jabba's water pipe. I managed to find some pieces for sale on eBay from some old Hasbro toy set that included the glass globe and the bowl piece underneath it (the one that Jabba keeps his frog snacks in). I decided to fabricate the rest out of clay. When I started researching it I was surprised to find out the water pipe is actually integrated into this kind of low wall that wraps the side and back of the dais. It's kind of an organic art deco design. Most of it is hidden by Jabba in the movie, so I didn't even know it was there. So that was my project in my spare time yesterday, I built that wall out of clay. I started painting it last night, I'll post a pic after I finish the paint. I also made a teeny tiny frog snack out of clay for the lower bowl and filled it halfway with two part epoxy for the "water", it turned out really cool
RoboFist- the LEDs do require some soldering abilities, but they're hard to beat for adding "mood" to the displays! I remember you mentioning in another thread that you were building his palace, are you doing the entire palace? There are some pretty cool reference photos online of a palace that someone built for the Hasbro black series figures.
Clash- I don't have as much spare time as I would like, that's for sure
I work on this stuff when I can, usually it's an hour here or there in the evenings. I probably have around 15 hours in this one so far and that's been spread out across about 2 weeks. I really enjoy working on my hobbies though, it's very therapeutic!
Don't let that discourage you! I'm an architect and back when I was an intern I worked a lot in the model shop building architectural models out of plastic and foam core. Oh man, some of the stuff I did was awful. I remember very carefully constructing a small building for a large model once and when I finished it I showed it to one of the model shop guys and I literally laughed out loud at how terrible it was! It was really frustrating. But I kept at it, asked others for tips, and eventually I was doing stuff that was marginally acceptable, LOL! It took a lot of practice before I started doing things that I actually felt proud of. Doing this kind of stuff isn't as much about natural ability as it is about learning techniques and applying them over and over again until you get good at it. I am not a railroad modeler but I have learned a lot about diorama construction from reading model railroading forums. Some guys build snow layouts so that might be a good place to look for tips for your white walker scene. And if you (or anyone else) wants to ask me how I built any of this stuff then feel free to message me, I enjoy helping people out and sharing tips!

Take your time painting that Jabba's palace.. that could look like a copy of the movie set with how well you've set it up so far. The characters all go perfectly there, too.

Flash, Beto and Kult, thanks
Kult, I'm sure a SW purist would have a field day with some of the liberties I've taken,
! But thank you, that's very kind of you
Here's a progress pic of the Dais low wall I was trying to describe. I'm holding the lower bowl in place with my hand for the pic because I haven't glued it all together yet, the paint is still drying. I went for kind of a distressed metal finish so it's not just straight up gold paint. I base-coated it in black first and then dry-brushed brass over it. As I mentioned in the earlier post the whole thing is made of clay. I embedded some carbon fiber rods to reinforce the top and bottom rails, and to support the cantilevered water pipe. Still plenty of work left but it's inching forward!

Thanks Beto! That is probably the set these water pipe clear parts are from, luckily they were the perfect size for this project! I was happy to find them because I had no clue how I was going to scratch-build those clear pieces.

Work is still progressing! It's raining again this weekend, so I should make some headway! Here was this evening's project, paint the frieze over the arch. I used some reference pics from the movie and replicated it as best I could. Sketched it first in pencil and then hand-painted it. I have to do a little touching up to the interior with the airbrush and then I'll rig up the led's!

Re: My custom displays- Jabba's throne room progress pics ad
Thank you so much Beto, Shae, Saul, Roach and Joe! Beto, I sure hope that Rancor is out soon, but I've figured out how to finish this up for now and then add the Rancor pit later when he is issued. Joe, maybe not, I have no plans of cutting my ear off
So I did rig up the lights last night in between trick-or-treaters and man it looks cool
I'm close to being done, just need to build the side filler panels (below is one of them) and paint Han. I've base-coated him in primer and gloss black and will be airbrushing him in a metalizer, hopefully today. Still need to plaster cloth the side panels and let it dry before painting so I still have a couple of days left just due to dry time. Getting close though!

That is so awesome. You are very talented I have to admit that but that's so cool!

It could be really nice if you could teach us a few tricks and/or tell us how you started learning this trade. I know I would like to learn but don't know where to start.
Over all I wish you the best and again, it looks very, very nice!

Love your thread, maybe I can convince my dad that my Funko collection (aka toys to him) can incorporate terrain building like our war-gaming minis. Perhaps then he would be more into them. I kind of doubt it though.
Seriously though, your displays are amazing and very inspirational.

Han got a coat of Alclad Magnesium airbrushed on him, looks much more like he's in carbonite now, don't y'all think?
Darkgrave, thanks! I've put a few tips in this thread and some more in-depth tips on the Your Display the Funko Way thread on building the foam core displays, but if you have any particular questions I'd be more than happy to answer them!
DPB, thank you! If you've been building war-gaming scenes then you probably have the skills for this already! You might start one yourself, I bet your dad cannot resist helping you if you do
