Re: Your display, the Funko way!
Well certainly not as creative as some on here but its a work in progress. Also like most it seems to change on a regular basis. Here is the first go round with making my own display shelf for my Pops! Funny thing was it was hung level on the wall but always looked out of level. I discovered that I'm not the best carpenter in the world because while the top board with Thanos on it was level everything else was out of whack!!

This one didn't stay to long as I grew my collection and it morphed into this guy. Which in turn I became only a slightly better carpenter, and made sure all my boxes had the same dimensions. Problem now is cutting wood with a jig saw for shelf material is about as bad as it can get.

Number 2 didn't last long either because well as per the norm the collection continues to grow, but dogonnit I really lack in the creative department!! The cuts on the wood are WAY better now though because I started asking the lumber store to make the cuts for me as I don't have a chop saw(I do now though).

Its getting ready for yet another change as I have needs for a few of the groups I collect just havent figured out the direction I'm going to go just yet. Here's how everything sits right now.

I think this looks great! My display came about via natural progression as well Yours too will keep morphing and it'll still look great I bet.

That spider man display look like your best one yet, and @Dan Taylor dude those are legit. How much would you say time and money wise do you spend on one display. Looking to make my own sometime next week.

Thanks Kanehg, its certainly a work in progress. I think I might jump into figuring out how to back the display with Marvel type stuff like I've seen others do on theirs just want to figure out how I want ot do it. Im also toying with lighting ideas but this is very early on thinking so that will take some time.

honestly bro the display is made from a 1x4 from pine wood. I bought my last 14 footer for display number 3 for like 8 bucks. The key I have found out is to make the cuts with a chop saw which makes for perfectly straight cuts. Once assembly starts triple check your measurements because just a little bit off and the display is not squared up. Also buy your lumber in shorter lengths because most of the pine 1x4 in longer lengths won't be as straight as you want. Ive also thought about trying out oak 1x4 but that is considerably more pricey. Time shall tell.

AWESOME Marvel collection! Because of space issues unfortunately only certain pops in my collection can go on display. I naturally chose Marvel so I have something in the works. Pics to come.

These all look great! I've been toying around with ideas too since mine are starting to overtake my bookshelf. I want to build my own floating shelves like this but I've just been kind of nervous to. Plus your collection looks great!

Well the pine 1x4 is cheap man so if the first attempt fails your not out that much. If you dont have a chop saw ask the lumber yard to cut it for you. That will make a HUGE difference in how your shelf looks. Example is my first shelf I showed. You can see it looks a bit off and allot of that was making cuts with a jig saw and not a chop saw. There are also TONS of other options for the hanger bracket I jut happened to use what I had on hand, which was a little metal 90. Whats cool about it is you get to play with woodworking which is fun and the sense of accomplishment is also a win!
Currently I have 4 big groups and some random smaller groups and have been toying with the idea of making displays for each group. I've gone through allot of the pages in this thread and have gotten a few ideas, its just a matter of transferring that from my head to wood, and that doesn't always work out. One of the ideas I have is a simple floating triangle in the corner of the wall. I have about 10 cut out and need to make the support boards for attaching to the wall. I would then like to get a LED light of some sort to put underneath to give them a rad look at night when lit up. Once again finding what I want and making it work are two separate things.....Time will tell

Yeah we've got a circular saw and I think a miter saw on hand so I don't think cutting the wood would be a big problem. For me it's just the lack of experience, but I think I'm just gonna go for it and not stress too much. Plus it'll be fun.
I have various lines/themes too. Star Wars, Superheroes, Horror/Paranormal, and High Fantasy are how I break down my main ones, then there's just random ones. I've got so many ideas I want to do and it's just going to be a matter of planning them out correctly. But there are plenty of people on this board who are willing to help out if you've got design questions and stuff!

The straight cuts are a big one to get past. Once past though the sky's the limit for sure. Again like I said before 1x4 pine is cheap so if its messed up just start over. Post pics once you start man i would love to see them.

jahilbert those displays you make are on point dude! How its it that you can cut such a perfect circle? Also what are you using for applying the backgrounds to these?

Re: Your display, the Funko way!
The trick is to buy pre-fab circles!
I get the backgrounds from Home Depot ($7 for the 18" circle) and I get 18" clear acrylic circles from our local plastic store, TAP plastics.
I spray the backgrounds and tape off the areas for stripes, etc... The eyes on Deadpool and the red items on Boba are wood cutouts that are glued on.

now that's some smart thing there! Given the amount of deadpool's I have though I dont think and 18 inch circle will fit them all! =P
Thanks for the response it helps with ideas for sure.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited to get into working on these. Probably closer to the summer when the weather is nicer. And I definitely will! Especially to get help.
