Re: Walking Dead Pop diorama- Ghostbusters now added!

Postby treswright » Tue Sep 29, 2015 8:51 pm

Finally finished the Star Wars display! It's kind of a fire and ice theme with the lower part having two Tattoine scenes and the upper part Hoth. I have one more thing I'm going to add- another Sand Trooper holding up a cog like the scene in episode 4 (will be on the lowest level with the Dewback). The next level up has a Jawa detaining C3PO and R2 with a sand crawler in the background. Next we have Han and Chewie looking for Luke (OK, Chewie wasn't there but I'm taking some artistic license ;-) ) and then of course the famous cave scene with Luke versus Wampa. I hope y'all enjoy it :-)

I finally got my red LEDs in so next I'm going back to add the lighting to the Ghostbusters display :-)

Awesome work, love the detail! Seriously, you should do more of these, they're great. Maybe a Game of Thrones or Superhero one, and apply for Funatic of the Week. These displays deserve recognition! =D>

Many thanks HPLove, Zack, Beto, Joe, Fawk, Kimchi and Matt, very kind of you all :-)

Zack, love your signature, kind of a "virtual" diorama :-) I love the GoT series, but I've never gotten into collecting the Pops (the only one I have is the Daeny/ dragon metallic set). However, the new throne Pop looks so darned cool I may break down and collect a few and if I do then that may end up being a new scene.

After I finish putting the LEDs on the Ghostbusters display the next project will probably be Jabba's throne room based around the new Jabba/ Leia set. There are already several Pops that would fit well in the scene, plus I'm going to try my hand at building a Han in carbonite to hang in the room. This is going to be more of a full diorama like the Walking Dead one I posted pics of at the beginning of the thread as compared to the "modified riser" scenes I posted pics of recently. I do have plans for another modified riser too though, it'll have the Batmobile Ride driving out of the Batcave :-) I wish I had more time to work on these, as it is I am only putting in an hour or two here and there each week because I'm so busy with other stuff. They've been fun though :-)

Thank you all for the awesome comments, I build stuff to my particular tastes and I'm always curious to see what others think, so it's fantastic to read that you all like them too :-D

I started out building foam core models for construction projects (I'm an architect) and let me tell you, I was a total hack when I started out, LOL! It really just takes practice. But thank you for the compliment :-)

Thanks! Definitely thinking about a GoT display of some kind, I'm only on season one so I'm going to try and catch up before deciding what to do there.

Jedipop wrote:Been waiting to see it and I love it! I would like to find the time to try make but i'll settle for living vicariously through you lol

Hahahaha! Be my guest :-) Actually I kind of live vicariously through others via these forums too, I've gotten a lot of my display ideas from the "Your Display The Funko Way" thread.

MorbidGee wrote:I love this great job ... I'm looking forward to Luke and Wampa!!! :)

Thanks! You may have just seen page 1, I posted Luke and Wampa but they ended up on page 2.

My offer still stands my nearly-a-neighbor friend, bring a group of your favorite Pops some time and we'll whip you up a display of your own :-)

Joe, you can always have a riser display and a separate display of your cherished (empty) boxes :-D

OK, finally got the lights installed! Here's a pic of the riser out of the cabinet in case anyone is curious what it looks like by itself:

And here it is in the case with the lights on:

And finally with the Pops back in:

And here's one of both shelves together:

Thank you! And I'm looking forward to it being completed as well so I can move on to something else, LOL! I have it mostly painted now. I molded 6 tiny beast heads to go around the base of Jabba's dais (the ones with the rings in the mouths in the movie). It's surprisingly difficult to find good reference photos for Jabba's throne room, it appears in the movie quite a bit but the scenes are so dark that it's hard to make out any details. Anyway the little heads are toothy cyclops beasts. I molded them out of Super Sculpy and had a rough time making 6 that looked more or less the same and were the same size, LOL! But they're done and being painted. I started last night on a custom Han-in-carbonite too and so far it's looking pretty good.

WendyWho wrote:WOW, that looks amazing Tres! Very, very nice job. I love the lights!

Thanks! All the lighting is strip LEDs. I have white LEDs running around the perimeter of the case and then used the color LED's for accents in the displays. Takes some time doing the soldering but it's worth it in the end :-)

Thanks Beto! Here's a pic of the progress on Han-in-carbonite, it's taking a long time to dry because I had to thin the plaster so much so I've got a heater on it now to try and speed things up. I made his hands out of Super Sculpey. The head next to him is one of the 6 cyclopses that will go around Jabba's dais. I'm going to try and do some more work on the base today and will post an overall progress shot later :-)
