Kimchi, Clash, Kitana, Big and Wendy, thank y'all :-D I appreciate it!

I decided to watch episode 6 since I've been working on this, I noticed there are a lot of accessories laying around that gives the place a more lived-in feel so I whipped up some little clay pottery and fruit sculptures this evening :-) I don't want it to get too cluttered but thought I would add a few for fun!

Thanks Matt! NG, I'm sure watching the movie will inspire me to build something, I certainly have anough FA Pops for one already! Beto, I seem to keep misplacing your address ;-)

Well it is finally finished! I just wrapped it up this evening and this is the first time I've seen it all together! I'm really happy with it, hope you all like it too :-) My phone takes lousy photos, I need to take some with my camera instead but until then here are a few shots of it. Hard to see but I made a teeny frog out of clay and he's floating in Jabba's snack bowl like in the movie :-) The water pipe and globe are from an old Hasbro toy set, I painted them to make them look less toy-like. Pretty much everything else is scratch-built- the gargoyle heads, the bowl and all the fruit in it, the two spiral vases, Han in carbonite, the sculptural wall that wraps behind Jabba and holds the water pipe bowl and of course the backdrop, walls and dais. I tried to limit the LED strips to create mood without washing it in too much light because the throne room in the movie is pretty dark.

Most of you probably know that an Oola prototype surfaced, I've left the front right space open for her once she goes into production!

Also we've all seen the Rancor proto that was on Gemini and YES I will be adding a Rancor pit to this whenever it is released! That is why I did not build the floor grates yet. The Rancor will be fighting Luke, if Funko doesn't see fit to make a Rancor Pit Luke with battle bone then I will make my own, can't be any harder than making Han in carbonite lol

I'm making another Han in carbonite for a fellow Funatic, then it'll be on to the next project! The next project will probably be another foam core riser, maybe GoT but I'm also itching to get my Universal Monsters displayed.

Thank you all, I really appreciate it :-)

Alex, I want to work on a GoT riser of the Iron Throne but I think it's going to have to wait until the metallic dragon set is released. I have the metallic Daeny so I want to put her on the throne surrounded by the metallic dragons, and do the window behind the throne with red backlighting as seen in some of the ep's. Another idea that's been eating at me is a Fifth Element scene with Korben's hover taxi Pop Ride as a centerpiece. Oh, except Funko hasn't made one, hahaha :-) Before I got into Pops I kitbashed car models into cartoony versions, so I may apply those abilities towards a scratch-built hover taxi :-)

Sure, I built the frame out of 1/4" foam core and a backing out of sheet styrene. I molded the hands out of Super Sculpey, it's a clay that you mold and then bake in an oven for 15 minutes at 275 to harden (can get it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby). That was probably the hardest part, those hands are teeny tiny. I always run the clay through a pasta maker a dozen times or so to soften the clay and make it more pliable, a trick I learned years ago from an artist lady who is a master at clay sculpting. And no, I do not make food with the same pasta maker lol It is only used for clay. I used some clay working tools to shape the hands as they are way too small to shape with my fingers. I cut the back part off of Han's head to fit into the tray, used a moto tool to do that. I used the same tool to cut off his hands. I hot-glued the new hands on, then I hot-glued his head and body into the tray. Then I watered down plaster until it was a soupy consistency and poured it in thin layers into the tray and let it flow around Han's body. I let it dry overnight before pouring the next layer. After the last layer (flush with the tray) I let it dry a couple of days, then primed it all with Tamiya primer (my favorite, it atomizes to very fine droplets). Next I applied a few coats of gloss black (also Tamiya). I let that dry overnight and then airbrushed the Alcad on at 15 psi. I think I said earlier in this thread that it was "magnesium", but I checked and it was actually "stainless steel".

As I mentioned earlier I'm working on a 2nd one for a fellow funatic. I'm changing a couple of things- the frame on this one is made out of basswood because when I poured the plaster into the foam core tray it got the foam facing wet and it started deforming. I was able to brace it until the plaster dried, but lesson learned. I'm also doing the backing out of 1/64" ply as it will glue to the basswood better. The other change I'm going to make is to build a plug to fit into the opening at the bottom of the head (where it bobbles), I left the head open on mine and it was tough getting plaster to flow in there.

I think that pretty well describes it, let me know if you have any questions! If you scroll back through the thread there are a couple of progress pics of it.

Thank you for the great comments! I spent the weekend reorganizing my display cases, it's something I've needed to do for years. I have a lot of beautiful miniature clay sculptures that were made by two artists that I used to collect from, one has since passed away. I wired up an older wooden display case with LED strips and relocated all the miniatures into it, finally they're displayed in a manner fitting for their incredible detail! The side benefit of all of that is I now have an empty Detolf case. I cleaned it up and added LED strip lighting to it as well, so now I've got a blank slate for more Pop displays :-)

I think Joe was responding to my earlier comment that he needs to road trip to my house, he lives in Fort Worth and I'm just east of Dallas so we're not too terribly far apart. I appreciate the compliments! Unfortunately I'm stuck with my day job because that's how I can afford to play around with Pops lol

Thank you Bob :-)

Below is a pic of a new Han in carbonite I did for a fellow Funatic!

Well the next project is decided, it's a GoT display for my girlfriend. It's a foam core display like the SW (cave) and GB versions I posted earlier in this thread. I'm about half done with it already. It will of course feature the iron throne, I'm working on the window that goes above it and will be backlighting it in red led's :-)
