Your display, the Funko way!

Postby sophie_dee11 » Sat Jul 28, 2012 1:20 pm

Unemployment sucks. I'm panicking about that for after uni and I haven't even started my new course haha. I'm p*** off though. The fees are increasing next year when I start. They're more than doubling too! Going from $2200 a semester so $4400 a year to $4600 a semester so $9200 a year!!! I am so glad we have HECS or I wouldn't be able to afford it. It'll just end up coming off my wage for years and years once I start working haha. Ugh. Going from basically $20 000 for my course to $40 000 is heart breaking. Don't see how te fees can change so much from 2012 to 2013! It's being put j to a different band obviously.

Sorry about my rant haha.

Loving the displays!

Best of luck to each of you that are searching for a job! I was extremely lucky and found work right after college, but I have a bunch of friends who are struggling to find something in this rough time. Just stay strong and continue to look and something will come your way!

Yeah, does suck. I mean, having HECs means its not that bad, it's just my debt will be double and will take longer to pay off. How we do it here is if you're a citizen and the course is a commonwealth supported one then you enrol as that and you don't pay anything. If you never earn enough money, you don't pay it back. So say you're in an accident and can't work after you've finished your course, you'd go on disability and not pay it back. Even if you were just working part time or something. I'm sure it is that you have to be working full time and earning a certain amount. So once that happens its like 5% out of your wage to pay it back over time. Which isnt bad at all, but it's still a debt against your name which affects going for other loans and whatnot. So that's what sucks about it. Still, I'm thankful for the system otherwise I wouldn't be able to go study!

Plus, my uni has one of the best rates for students getting employment after uni. So I suppose I shouldn't worry too much! I can work in research too if necessary... Lot of options available from my course.

Haha. I might get lucky and the review it again before next year. Some of the reviews aren't until August. Seems like a lot of the science and medical based courses are going up to $4000 ish a semester though. Medical imaging science, biomedical science and (my course) medical laboratory science all definitely are. they might be moving it to a different band. The important and much needed jobs are cheapest. Usually teaching and nursing. Stuff like that. Looks like mine are band two or three now. Which is weird cos they still have the OP up high which means they need more people in the course...

Who knows! I'm just going to do my course and not think about it till I have to start paying haha.

Don't worry about it right now. I know when I graduated college I was worried about it as well. But when you have a career and a good paying job, loans are just something you have to pay and eventually they go away. It's worth it!

I didn't want to display mine out of the boxes either because I was worried about them loosing value but then I saw everyones displays of them out of box and knew that I had to free them from their little jails.

I kept my boxes though they are in my closet .. when I get better stands to display them on I will probably display the boxes with them or use them as risers..

I guess I'm the only one who likes to keep them trapped in the boxes. The boxes are just so well made.I think without the box its only 50% of a piece, but thats my opinion.lol :-"

Take up way too much room in the box haha. I like being able to look at all the details. I have flat packed my boxes and kept them though! Threw out the plastic insert things... Unless its an exclusive!

I take them out when I first get them, but after that its right back into the box.I'd have to buy like 20 shelves if they weren't in the boxes.

I display in and out of the box, on my wall shelves they are in the box, on my display they are out. I like them out cause you can appreciate the piece more but in the box you can appreciate the box art.

Thanks for all the kind words. I love the 9" guys as well they look better in person. Already the collection has grown by 15 and I still don't have and of Disney series 4. As for a 9" Batman I think the patinad batman 9" could be ridiculous

Mine are currently boxed until I can get some new shelving for their permanent homes, at which time I will let them breathe, but with the boxes behind them. Right now they're on a shelf close to the ceiling, where the dust lives, and I don't want the figures to get all dusty so in the box they will stay until a later date.

Pop&Lock has a point, if i took them out the box half my collection will have no room plus I'm deathly afraid of sun damage to my boxes, does the sun hurt the pop itself?!

There is a local comic book store near me that displays all their pops that are for sale in the window. They get a lot of light and I have passed up some pieces there due to the sun damage of the pop color. I've never noticed anything in terms of the figure itself being hurt by this, but the boxes can fade quicker than you would think if they are directly in the sunlight.

As for the box/no box debate.... I display everything in its box. I prefer having the ability to stack them when the number of shelves are limited and yet the book shelf set up is large. They have great detail and I've seen pictures of many of them.. However I don't think I can be convinced to take them out and have to dust them lol.

I just want to add that boxes or the figures can fade in indirect sunlight as well. DH has a few Tick items (from the cartoon in the 90's) that are on a dresser. the window closest to the items has a shade and the box closest to the window is lighter than the other sides. the shade is never opened but there is some light that can filter through and it faced the box.

Just an FYI...

yeah, the figures will fade, but it takes longer. my flash box is sun-faded, but the figure looks great. there's pictures around here somewhere of someone's superman that was sun-faded. it might have even been a chase. you can definitely tell the difference.

I keep mine away from the windows and sunlight for the most part, all my Iron Man figures only get light when I hit the switch. I have some stuff on a dresser near my window, but the curtains are usually closed the sun itself never hits the dresser.
