I think it's a fun game, but it does have flaws. It's much better than some of the reviews have been. IGN gave it a 4/10 and that is just insane. I love Funko but I am not a mindless supporter who loves everything, so I would tell the truth if the game was bad. It's a platformer collectathon so if you hate those, you will have a rough time, but I love platformers. They are a dying genre but they have always been my favorite types of games (Ratchet and Clank and the 3D Mario games are my favorite series ever).
It looks amazing. The graphics are great (I am playing on the PS5), and there are little Funko Easter eggs all over the place like random posters on the walls and Fantastik Plastik characters all over the place. The level design is really good, and is true to the shows or movies they come from. What I mean by that is that in Umbrella Academy for example, you can see actual places from the show like the donut shop or the theater where Viktor plays the violin in season 1. In Jaws, you really are on the beach in Amity. It's great to look at and that encourages exploration. The character selection for most levels is solid - every main level has four characters and I can't think of one that disappointed me with who they chose (although I really wanted to play as Kim Pine in Scott Pilgrim or Wilford Brimley's character in The Thing level). I also really like the character design for the new characters - both Eddy and Foxxo are good looking characters.
As far as flaws, some of those have been patched. The Masters of the Universe has a real huge difficulty spike compared to the other levels. It's the only level where I died enough to have to restart the level. I heard this has changed but I have not replayed it yet. Your objectives are not always clear, so sometimes you find yourself wandering around wondering what to do. And most levels have some sort of escort quest and those are never great in any game. One or two of them (looking at you, Battlestar Galactica) have such dumb AI that the people you are escorting get stuck or glitched. I had to restart BSG a couple of times because Boxy walked into a wall and wouldn't follow me anymore.
I plan on getting the platinum trophy but you need 100% for that. I should finish the story tonight. I was trying to complete all the cameo levels first and those were glitched after the latest update so I couldn't play Shaun of the Dead or Jaws, but that is fixed now so I played Shaun yesterday and started Jaws, which I will finish tonight before I go fight Eddy. 100% involves a lot of replaying though, so I think I will take a break and play Astro Bot and come back to Funko Fusion. It's 100% worth getting if you like platformers like the Lego games, and 10/10 Games plans on supporting it for a long time so I think the flaws will be fixed or at least minimized.
