Taking care of your wobblers..

Postby profbauti » Thu Dec 26, 2013 12:30 pm

Hi there guys, I'm new here, and I wanted to find out how you guys take care of your wobblers. I see that some of you display them out of the box (in which case dust is a problem), while others keep them in their containers (is moisture a problem?). I mostly keep them in the boxes to keep them from dust, but the other day, I let some out of their boxes, and I felt some moisture in some of them.

I was wondering if you guys encountered any similar issues, particularly the old wobblers? I bought some silica gel, and I was wondering if this could take care of the problem of moisture.

If there are any other tips that you have, i'll be interested in hearing them out! :D

Hmmm do you live in a humid climate? I live in a very dry state do I have never encounter this. And I display most in box but some out and there is really no way to prevent dust. Just whip out your ol feather duster!!

The moisture has been referred to as "wobbler p***". I've had this mainly on the bottom of the bases when I've put them on glass shelves. Seems to be some kind of chemical thingamabob. I've had this on only a few of the older wobblers. I just wiped it off and it hasn't come back. Most of my stuff is in Ikea display cases with glass doors. No need to dust.

I have Wobblers displayed in a variety of ways. Half of my collection is like Craig's, in a display case (out of box) so dust isn't an issue with those. The rest of my Wobblers are displayed out of box--the most important pieces are in individual display boxes, since I didn't want dust being an issue on them.

these display boxes come from Michael's which I only bought when I had a 50% coupon or more, which knocked their cost down to $5 each.

For most of them, however, they're out in the open and the plan is for me to dust them (annually?); a damp microfiber cloth is what I use (no chemicals--just water)

The moisture is most likely what Craig described 'wobbler p++s' or 'Vinyl Sweat'. It's a chemical used to keep the plastic soft during molding and it leaches out. Display out of box for a while so your vinyl can breathe. Sometimes the chemical will react with the plastic packaging and discolor (Monkey Assassin Pop). Actually...those Monkeys sweat a lot.

The Spastik Plastik & Fantastik Plastik lines by Funko have the most "vinyl sweat" of all their products.

THanks for all your input, maybe I'll consider displaying them out of the box after all

Take one out and display it that way for a couple days and see what you think.
